Baldur’s Gate 3 – How to Recruit Karlach

You can encounter many companions in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, few are as fierce (or friendly) as Karlach. This Tiefling has emerged stronger after years of battling the denizens of Avernus Hell, and yet she has retained her bubbly personality. How to recruit Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3

Where to find Karlach

The Baldur’s Gate 3 Karlach recruitment method occurs at the start of Act 1. After eliminating the scouting party that attacked the Druid Grove, you’ll want to keep going west. Cross the stone bridge and head north instead of entering the battered village. You’ll come to a clearing, which has a dog you can pet and send to your camp.

Further north is a river, which has several rocks you can jump over. Once you cross said river, go east and check the end of the path. There you will see Karlach burning with flames of hell. The coordinates are X: -104; Y: 520.

Note that you must have an available slot in your party for Karlach to join you. If you don’t, she will run to the location of a battle and she will be an AI-controlled NPC for the fight.

How to beat Anders

Karlach’s quest, Hunt the Devil, asks you to eliminate Anders and his “fake” paladins. They are actually followers of the devil Zariel. You’ll find them in a building on Risen Road, but before talking to Anders, we suggest repositioning your party. Make sure everyone is unlinked and do the following:

• While you’re still outside, climb to the top of the building and enter the balcony area. Don’t bring Karlach down too early.
• Have a melee character standing near Anders.
• Have another melee character next to the Halfing Ranger.
• Your caster should be further away in a corner of the room.

Only ask Karlach to descend the ladder once you have finished preparing. Once Anders spots her, the dialogue will trigger and you have to attack. Since you’ve positioned your characters, you should be able to take down Anders and his cronies fairly easily. This fight earns you the Sword of Justice, Anders’ weapon. There is also a Soul Piece on a shelf in the adjacent room.

Burning characteristic of Karlach

Now that you have officially recruited Karlach into Baldur’s Gate 3, you will be able to use his abilities. As a Barbarian, she relies on Rage generation to build her DPS, with powerful strikes that can deal a ton of damage.

Also, after the battle, Karlach will start running around. The fires of hell are burning her and she has to let off steam. Also, Karlach and Wyll have some history, and the two will almost come to blows. Try to keep the two from fighting each other to get lots of approval from your other companions. Finally, make sure to save the Tiefling refugees in the druids’ grove. Go the other way, just so you can minthara romance, is a bad idea. This will actually cause Karlach and Wyll to leave your party for good.
