Chris Bisson addresses twist of Rishi Sharma’s death

Emmerdale spoilers follow Thursday’s episode (July 27).

Emmerdale Star Chris Bisson has opened up about Bhasker Patel’s departure from the show following Thursday’s shocking episode.

Chris’ character, Jai Sharma, is about to turn his whole world upside down when he finds out that his adoptive father, Rishi Sharma, has passed away.

The latest episode of the ITV soap opera ended with a tragic twist in history, as Rishi’s body was seen at the bottom of the stairs in his house. Bhasker left the show after 12 years playing Rishi.

An oblivious Jai was celebrating his wedding reception at The Woolpack, but Friday’s edition of Emmerdale will see him devastated when he finds Rishi’s body.

Speaking of upcoming scenes, Chris explained, “It was two days of shooting with a ‘dead Bhasker’ above me as I cried.

“It was tough and it was a long, emotional day – I felt devastated at the end of filming. But I tried to give my all. We try to get inside the heads of the characters. The audience wants seeing and understanding the characters’ pain and that’s what we try to portray as actors.

“It’s like when they say take your work home with you. If you’ve had a long emotional day of scenes where you’ve been upset all day, you don’t just turn off when they yell ‘cut’. little time to acclimate – come back down and straighten your head to get back to normal. You need some headroom after a day like this.

On losing Bhasker from the show, Chris continued, “It’s very strange without him. Every time I walk past what used to be his dressing room, I think about poking my head around to see how he’s doing. So it’s strange when he’s not there.

“12 years is a long time. And over the years we had some great stories and we had a lot of fun too. Bhasker and I got on very well personally which makes a big difference and the loss is still bigger – I miss all of us in the building.”

Rishi’s death aired just as Jai decided it was time to make peace with his father after the recent arguments.

The couple had fallen out after it was revealed that Rishi had adopted Jai as a baby. However, Rishi got it right in Thursday’s episode by finally confirming that his younger brother Amit is Jai’s biological father.

Chris said: “Jai’s speech at the wedding reception was really about his dad and how he wanted things to be right – how life is too short and how we should all make the most of it and enjoy what we have. So the day after Of course, he’s going to be very, very upset finding out about his dad. Not just the sadness of losing his dad, but the circumstances. Because they hadn’t had a chance to work things out .

“I think it’s going to make things more difficult for Jai. He’s going to brood over it. It’s not something that goes away and we’re coming back to that regret in future scripts. We’re reflecting on the state of their relationship at the moment. of his death.

“I guess it would be nice if someone could look at this story and take something away from it – maybe resolve a difference they have, before it’s too late. It would be nice to think the show could have a positive effect. Life is really too short.”
