Coronation Street aired a violent climax to the Toyah Battersby hostage crisis.
Toyah was taken hostage last week by a woman claiming to be Spider’s wife – in reality, this woman, Maggie, was connected to a drug case Spider worked on in the past.
Monday’s (July 17) episode revolved around Spider racing to find Toyah before it’s too late, while convincing Leanne Battersby not to involve the police.
Spider eventually explained that Maggie resented him because her husband had died in connection with one of his drug investigations.

He eventually received a text from Maggie ordering him to follow her instructions to a meeting place or else she would kill Toyah.
As Spider made her way to the rendezvous point, Leanne was panicked by the situation. She confessed to Nick that she was furious that Spider refused to involve the police.
At the meeting place, Spider spotted Maggie with a gun and was soon forced to kneel down next to Toyah. Spider made one last play to back down Maggie insisting that he didn’t like Toyah so killing her would be pointless.
“Your husband was a dirty heroin dealer. He ruined people’s lives, children’s lives,” Spider continued.

Spider rushed at Maggie and urged Toyah to run, but as she took off, Toyah heard a gunshot in the background. She turned to the horrifying sight of Spider on the floor.
Toyah decided it was now or never so she ran away. Viewers then saw Maggie point her gun, but as the camera cut back to Toyah running away, another shot rang out.
This time, Toyah turned to see Spider standing over fallen Maggie. The police eventually arrived on the scene soon after, with Spider’s superior, DS Swain, ripping a tape off him for not calling for backup sooner.
Back in Weatherfield, Leanne was relieved to learn that Toyah was safe but still angry that Spider had put her life in danger in the first place.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Toyah begged Spider to give up his undercover work, but when he hesitated, she ended their relationship saying she had to be with someone who put her first. Is it really over for Toyah and Spider?
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
