Emmerdale spoilers – Kevin Mathurin teases change for Charles

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale Star Kevin Mathurin has opened up about his character Charles Anderson’s ongoing tensions with his father Victor.

The village vicar is currently at the center of a big story, as he continues to fear the worst during Victor’s recent reunion with the Anderson family.

When Victor was released from a long stint in prison two months ago, he tried to make amends with his son Charles and ex-wife Claudette. Charles seemed reluctant to give Victor another chance after so many mistakes in the past.

Kevin recently met digital spy during an exclusive photo shoot for interior soap review to celebrate Emmerdale‘s at this year’s Inside Soap Awards. Kevin is up for Best Actor, he and his on-screen partner Rebecca Sarker (Manpreet Sharma) are up for Best Partnership, and the Andersons are up for Best Family.

digital spy got exclusive video access to the photoshoot and chatted with each of the actors involved.

Talking about the direction Victor’s story is taking, Kevin said digital spy“I’m very excited – extremely excited. It brings out other dynamics and parts of Charles that viewers haven’t seen in the past two years.

“Charles is quite friendly and quite family oriented – he loves his job. But you’re going to bring out a side of him with people he doesn’t get along with.

“[It’s] less of the religious Charles and more of the real person of Charles, which is great.”

On Charles’ refusal to believe that Victor has changed for the better, Kevin continued: “From Charles’ perspective, he’s been let down so many times over the years. All he wants to do is protect his mother.

“With Victor back onstage, he knows exactly what’s going to happen. He wants to stop him before it happens again. But, as you can see in the episodes so far, it’s happening again.

“Charles and Victor really clash. The point is that Victor is sincere or not? We don’t know. But Charles is adamant that a leopard never changes its spots.

“He always feels like people can repent, but when it comes to Victor, there’s no repentance.”

Kevin hinted that the current situation could lead to further strain in Charles’ relationship with Manpreet, who is more willing to give Victor the benefit of the doubt.

He said: “I think because Manpreet looks on the outside, not really knowing the depth and the history of the family feuds, she comes up with an opinion that Charles is perhaps more blind to. That’s although Charles has his opinions and views.

“I think because [Charles and Manpreet] are so solid, sometimes you’d say things you know you can’t get away with in a relationship, which sometimes can go a little too far!”

Kevin also reflected on Emmerdale‘s at this year’s Inside Soap Awards, which will take place at a ceremony in London in September.

He said: “I think the stories have been very strong this year – very family oriented. [There are] some really interesting stories to come, which I can’t talk about! The acting is simply fantastic.

“I don’t want to be biased, but Emmerdale just attracts something else that other soaps don’t have.”

Kevin is up for Best Actor, Best Partnership, and Best Family at the Inside Soap Awards. You can watch our full behind-the-scenes video of the nominees photoshoot at the top of the page.
