The full Monty Star Steve Huison has revealed a touching fan response to the franchise’s LGBTQ+ representation.
The actor, who returns as Lomper in the new FX and Disney+ sequel series, broke new ground in the original 1997 film when his character begins a same-sex relationship with Guy (Hugo Speer).
Talk to digital spyHuison was asked about a romantic scene in the new series with her husband involving pigeons and the importance of more mature LGBTQ+ representation, which prompted him to recall meeting a fan.

Opening on a recent screening, he said: “There was a really interesting commentary. A guy stood up and said he was really grateful for the movie. It had never really crossed my mind. mind: you don’t know how this movie is going to affect people.
“Anyway, he said that for him it was the first time he had seen a gay depiction of working-class men from the North.
“It gave him confidence in his own sexuality at the time. I was like, ‘Just that, in and of itself, is something.’ This is the power of art, the power of cinema.

“But now, looking at this relationship, what you find out now is that it’s not secret anymore. It’s not secretly holding hands. It’s normalization, which, you know, has to be a good thing,” Huison continued.
“It’s just two people. It doesn’t matter the gender. It’s just two people who love each other, who have chosen to spend their lives together. It’s normal. You can use this word [laughs]. It’s a normal relationship. It doesn’t matter if it’s two men, two women or whatever.”
The full Monty the series is streaming now Disney+, as well as the original film which is also available to watch on the streaming service. In the United States, it is available at Hulu.
