July 2023 PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium Free Games

The PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium free games for July 2023 have been announced, so let’s run through them before they hit the service at tuesday july 18.

As a reminder, PS Plus is a three-tier system. Extra is the mid-tier that unlocks a large library of PS5 and PS4 titles to download, while Premium is the top tier that adds classic games and cloud streaming options to a wide selection in the library (July’s freebies from Essential are already available).

This month is a bit lighter on huge names than previous ones, but there are still a few notable headlines, such as Extra’s July freebie: It takes two (PS5/PS4).

The Game Awards 2021 Game of the Year winner is played entirely co-op, online or in person, playing players as a bickering married couple who transform into dolls. In its approximately 12 hours, the game offers many types of game modes and mechanics for players, and there is a scene with an elephant that will be make you cry.

Even better, a friend who is only at the basic Essential level can pick up the Friend Pass and play the entire game with you at no additional cost!

Elite Sniper 5 (PS5/PS4) is another big name, giving players a big sandbox in which to plan and execute their long-range kills, while Subtitle (PS4) is an absolute critical darling for its innovative twists on RPG mechanics and highly memorable characters.

Zombie Survival Game World War Z (PS5/PS4) has always been popular, and adding it to Plus will only make it even more so. Samurai warriors 5 (PS4) and Dynasty Warriors 9 (PS4) try both to take the overdone classic Warriors formula in new directions, although the latter is a bit controversial among fans for various changes, including the replacement of all English voice actors.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Rehydrated Bikini Bottom (PS4) is a well-received remaster of a fan-favorite collectathon platform that’s especially beloved by speedrunners, while snow runner (PS5/PS4) has a load of licensed vehicles to let you drive in dangerous icy conditions.

We also have action and shooter RPG the ascent (PS5/PS4), 2D fighter Melty Blood: Lumina-Type (PS4), apocalypse survival simulation Dismantling (PS5/PS4), steampunky management simulation Electric Circus (PS4), collection of equine fashion show minigames My Little Pony: An Adventure in Maretime Bay (PS5/PS4), and Fast & Furious: Spy Racers Rise of SH1FT3R (PS5/Ps4) and Monster Jam Steel Titans (PS4) for all vehicle enthusiasts.

All games listed as only for PS4 will still be playable on PS5 and might even work better. They just don’t have native PS5 versions that would make the most of the new hardware.

Premium adds PSP space shooter Portable Crash Gravityand PS1 arena battle duo twisted metal And twisted metal 2which coincides well with the release of the twisted metal TV series with Anthony Mackie, Will Arnett and Neve Campbell all featured.

These three games are emulated in HD, with save states, rewind function and (usually) trophy lists for separate PS4 and PS5 versions.
