The Prime Minister clearly ignored a security line at home while vacationing thousands of miles away in California.
Rishi Sunak was pictured with his wife Akshata Murty and their daughters Krishna, 12, and Anoushka, 10, enjoying the sunshine in the United States.
The Conservative Party Prime Minister, who traveled with his family during the parliamentary recess, is spending 10 days on the west coast, including a stopover at Disneyland.
Before leaving the UK, Mr Sunak said the trip would be ‘really special’ as it would be his first ‘real’ family summer holiday in years, and his children were ‘very excited’ by their visit to the theme park.
The MP for Richmond in Yorkshire looked cheerful in the photos and unfazed by the chaos unfolding across the North Atlantic Ocean.
His £2million mansion was covered in hundreds of meters of ‘oily black cloth’ by Greenpeace activists yesterday in protest at his latest environmental policies.
Mr Sunak announced this week that hundreds of new oil and gas licenses in the North Sea had been granted by the government to boost funding for carbon capture.
A photo shared on social media showed four people who had climbed onto the roof.
They stayed there for at least five hours before getting off and being taken away by police vans. Another person was also arrested.
They have all been released on bail pending further investigation.
The stunt raised questions about how activists were able to access the prime minister’s home so easily.
Former Home Secretary Priti Patel said: ‘It raises very serious questions about how the home of a sitting Prime Minister was accessed in this way, as activists and political activists were able to encroach on his property and gain physical access to it. .
“There are major security issues that need to be investigated, and quite frankly the Home Secretary should absolutely look into this matter urgently and carry out an immediate review.”
Former Tory leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith added: ‘It’s a pathetic blow for them to try to pull off which shows the pathetic, childish and toxic nature of these organisations.
“But also how come security doesn’t seem to know how to protect the Prime Minister’s house – that’s a shocking finding. There must be an investigation into what was going on.
A statement on the Greenpeace website read: “Rishi Sunak has just said he will continue issuing new oil licenses and he is set to approve Rosebank, the largest undeveloped oil field in the North Sea. “.
“It will be a climate disaster and will do nothing to reduce bills, so we need your help to stop it.
“We have seen governments make countless U-turns when enough public pressure was put on them.
“Force Rishi Sunak to choose sides: oil profits or our future?”
But Mr Sunak is likely to face the fallout on his return as he takes time to enjoy his trip.
The Prime Minister’s holiday photoshoots are a long-standing tradition, with David Cameron having previously been photographed at a Portuguese fish market and Theresa May hiking in Switzerland.
The prime minister said the US state of California was ‘very special to us’ because he met his wife there while studying at Stanford University.
They continued to live there while he worked for a hedge fund before returning to the UK.
