As we hit the first anniversary of the arrival of purple hearts, you may have seen viral posts on Facebook suggesting that a sequel to the movie is on the way. Unfortunately, this is not the case as it stands.
With Sofia Carson and Nicholas Galitzine, purple hearts is one of Netflix’s best and most-watched romance movies of all time. Based on the novel by Tess Wakefield, the film tells the story of an aspiring musician who agrees to a marriage of convenience with a soon to be deployed Marine.
Before Netflix moves to its new 91-day metric to cover its all-time best-selling titles, purple hearts ranked as the ninth most-watched film of all time, with 228.69 million hours watched in the first 28 days worldwide on the service.
Fake Facebook Posts Suggest A Sequel Is Coming Soon
Over the past few weeks, we have posted many times fake news circulating on Facebook regarding news about movies and series that have sequels when they are not. It started with The Queen’s Bet and recently we noticed some viral posts on 365 days 4 to go out. Both are unfortunately not true.
The pages in question are all Netflix fan pages that make money through affiliate programs. There are several fake pages, including “Netflix Addict”, “The Netflix Memes”, and “Netflix Daily Updates”.
Over the past few months, they have regularly published articles on Purple Hearts 2 “coming soon”, and unfortunately, it is not currently the case that there will be a sequel. Many posts garner tens of thousands of likes and shares.

Most of the posts also contain links to another Netflix news site, Netflix Life, which allegedly claims there is a sequel. Unfortunately, if you go to said page, it says no such thing. In fact, this is what it says:
“As of May 2023, Netflix has not indicated that a sequel is in the works. The chances of there being a Purple Hearts 2 are slim to none. The romantic drama ends quite well, with Cassie and Luke reuniting together. So a continuation of the story seems pointless.
Why are these pages spreading false information, then? They get paid to send traffic to NetflixLife, and coming up with good news on a sequel earns them likes, reach, and clicks.
What have we said about a sequel to Purple Hearts?
Not much, but the film’s producers had some thoughts after the initial 2022 release, but as of August 2023, there are no official plans or active rumors of a sequel.
Speaking to Variety, Sofia Carson potentially teased a sequel and what it could be about, saying:
“Now the fans have kind of demanded a sequel and there’s so many fan theories, fan stories and potential spin-offs, so of course it’s nice to think of a life for Cassie and Luke at the beyond this movie. I love being Cassie and would be curious to see where that leads. Who knows. You never know!”
In that same interview, Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum (the film’s producer) echoed Carson’s sentiments saying:
“We wouldn’t do anything unless we really, really like him because we want to stay true to integrity. We haven’t landed on anything definite yet. It’s always a possibility.

Sofia Carson will soon appear in another Netflix Original movie. Scheduled to land in 2024, Carson will appear alongside Taron Egerton in Continue.
The other good news is that last year we revealed how long Netflix will keep the movie. As you may know, Netflix acquired the rights to the film from Alloy Entertainment and will stream it for 30 years, with its expiration currently scheduled for 2052.
